Indianapolis’ School Quality Matrix
Comparing Academic Performance
Catholic schools in cities like Indianapolis compete for students in environments dominated by district, charter, and voucher schools, but they often lack clear, apples-to-apples information about how their academic performance stacks up. Basis filled that gap: giving diocesan leaders a nuanced view of student performance so they can celebrate strengths, identify areas for improvement, and make more informed decisions about instruction and resources. Our research redefined the School Quality Matrix to account for all school types and situations.
Understanding Academic Success
To turn oranges into apples and help measure academic success in Catholic schools, Basis
- extended the School Quality Matrix to the Indianapolis metro region.
- examined the relationship between student growth and attainment for all schools in Indianapolis.
- produced reports that show how diocesan schools perform relative to other schools in their area.
- annually provided background on the project, explaining metrics and guiding Catholic school leaders in interpreting and using results.
