Indicators for Equity, Excellence, and Well-being

putting meaningful numbers behind equity, excellence, and well-being

Oakland Schools wants to track whether it is truly advancing equity, academic excellence, and student well-being, something that requires indicators that are both accurate and actionable: not just easy to count. This project helps the agency choose and refine metrics that reflect what matters most for students and that leaders can use to drive improvement.

Understanding Impact

Equity, excellence, and well-being are often intangible or hard to measure, but Basis’ researchers are experts in quantifying the unquantifiable. To understand complex measurements, we

  • conducted an extensive literature review and inventoried publicly available data sources for each indicator
  • assessed how actionable each indicator is for school and district decision-makers.
  • developed clear, usable metrics for each validated indicator so progress can be monitored over time.
